  • Changzhou Institute of Technology is a full-time public undergraduate university located in Changzhou, a national historical and cultural city with developed economy, prosperous culture and education, convenient transportation, and beautiful and rich scenery. The school was formerly known as Changzhou 7.21 University of Technology, founded in 1978,
  • In 1980, the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province approved the establishment of Changzhou Vocational University,
  • In 1982, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Changzhou Industrial and Technical College,
  • In 2000, the Ministry of Education approved the merger of Changzhou Institute of Technology and Changzhou University of Mechanical and Metallurgical Workers to form Changzhou Institute of Technology, which was upgraded to undergraduate level,
  • In 2003, the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province approved the establishment of Changzhou Normal College (preparatory) and merged it into Changzhou Institute of Technology,
  • In 2011, the school was approved as a pilot university for the Ministry of Education’s “Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program”,
  • In 2017, the school was officially approved as a construction unit for granting master’s degrees in Jiangsu Province,
  • In 2021, the School of Intelligent Manufacturing Industry was approved as one of the first batch of National Modern Industry Colleges,
  • In 2023, the non independent legal person Sino foreign cooperative education institution established by the school in cooperation with the University of Hertfordshire in the UK, Changzhou Institute of Technology Hertford College, was approved by the Ministry of Education.
  • In 2024, with the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the school will become a master’s degree granting institution.

Inheriting history and creating the future

Historical Evolution

The predecessor of the school was established in April 1978, and at that time the school was named “Changzhou 7.21 Industrial University”.

In November 1979, it was renamed Changzhou Workers’ University.

In November 1980, the Changzhou Municipal Government applied to the Jiangsu Provincial Government for approval to establish Changzhou Vocational University. In March 1982, the Changzhou Municipal Government clarified that Changzhou Vocational University and Changzhou Workers’ University were two schools with one set of staffing.

On December 31, 1982, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of Changzhou Industrial and Technical College on the basis of Changzhou Vocational University, implementing a management system with dual provincial and municipal leadership and division of labor (gradually transitioning to a city based system).

On March 22, 2000, the Ministry of Education approved the merger of Changzhou Institute of Technology and Changzhou University of Mechanical and Metallurgical Workers to form Changzhou Institute of Technology. It is a regular higher education institution at the undergraduate level, led and managed by Jiangsu Province, and implemented a city based educational system jointly built by the province (Jiangsu Province) and the city (Changzhou City). The college focuses on undergraduate education and also offers vocational education at the college level.

In July 2003, with the approval of the Jiangsu Provincial Government, all resources of Changzhou Normal College (preparatory) were merged into Changzhou Institute of Technology.
